QI/GIS Curriculum Breakdown

PGY-1

PGY-2

Identify a topic, target population, lay research foundation. Residents will conduct a needs assessment and choose between a prevention or support model.

  • Inquiry – assess mental health needs within our region
    • Each project will use HARC data as a foundation 
    • Analysis of service region via resources related to targeted mental health conditions
    • Map mental health resources

Implementation, data collection, conference presentation. Residents will create a story map using GIS software and will present during journal club. 

  • Research – early data collection and preliminary analyses (pilot-like phase)
      • Journal club presentation
        • Feedback will be given to each resident via IRI

PGY-3

PGY-4

Implementation, data collection, conference presentation. Residents will map their intervention results and present during our internal conference. 

  • Evaluation – feedback from judges and research mentors, tweaks and refinements to methods
  • Internal conference presentation
    • The top 2 projects will be chosen to present at a conference of their choosing 
  • QI/GIS Theme
  • Residents will receive feedback on their presentations via the IRI

Scholarly activity, final project submission, next steps. Residents will be trained to use the IRI to provide feedback to PGY-3. 

  • Construct – manuscripts, grants, ongoing QI research & interventions
  • Manuscript preparation
    • Residents will prepare manuscripts to be submitted to a journal (RESEARCH TRACK)
  • Grants
    • Residents interested to pursuing grants will be paired with an advisor/PI 
  • OTP INNOVAR program
